The trip on the tube was a reminder of London for me. Apart from the fact that all the trains in Shanghai have airconditioning. It was nice to be able to have some control again, in terms of understanding where it was we were going. We needed to get across shanghai from the Mag-Lev terminal tube station to “Shanghai south railway station”. Shanghai has 2 main railway stations, both of which are on the same tube line. Miao asked an assistant at the tube station where we changed line which station was needed, whether that “Shanghai Railway station” was ok for where we needed to go, and he said yes. As we were travelling south, we thought that we’d save some time if we went to the main station, only 2 stops away, as opposed to the south station which was something like 10 stops away. We got off the tube and located where we needed to buy tickets, and having queued for ages, to be told we needed to go to the south station. Being nearly 2pm at this point, we decided to get something to eat at KFC, being easy and quick, and something we could eat on the tube. After another queueing session at the tube station to get tickets to travel on the tube. We managed to get 1 seat after the first stop, which was then given up to an old man the next stop. I had a little chat with a mother father and child family on the journey. Saying things like “I love China” “I am from England” and “My Chinese is not good” in Chinese of course. I especially loved the “No spitting” signs at the tube stations, and the “No flamable explosives” sign.
