Train journey to Shanghai

Friday 3rd October 11:39AM on the Expensive fast train to Shanghai

Shushu had bought us “Premier Class” train tickets to Shanghai (literally meaning by the sea) which in effect meant that we’re sitting at a table, in a carriage where every square inch isn’t taken up by seats and the minimum required corridor. Taking only 2.5hrs, as opposed to the 3.5 the other train took. Feels much more like a fairly modern British train with Electronic signs that tell you the next stop, times for where the train stops, its speed, the temperature etc. The corridor along the middle is comfortably wide, making pulling luggage behind a pleasure rather than a hinderance getting past people, the overhead shelves were much easier to reach and the seats are comfortable, wide and seperated so that you aren’t sitting in the next persons lap. however the tickets were more than twice as expensive. We’ve just passed Hangzhou, which is a famous place for Chinese people, famed for its beautiful landscape and lake. Saw a big Chinese lake tower here, such as the ones at Alton Towers, except much bigger, and authentic.

This morning we were all up at 8am, we finished packing, orderd some Chinese delivered food from the same restaurant as yesterday’s lunch, ate, then left for the station at 9am. The taxi had it’s “Friday clothes” on and dropped us off at the station. Yiwu station did not sell platform tickets, so Shushu left us at the entry gate to the waiting area, where we dutifuly queued up at the correct gate, and waited for our train to be ready to be boarded. Did the Chinese thing of walking into the spaces that people had left in front of them, and more people did the same to us, so felt justified. Got on the train, and that brings us to where we are now. Miao having a rest, coat around her, with the train’s lovely air conditioning making her cold, and I writing the diary.

End of section: 12:08pm.
