As part of most of my classes that I teach, I get every student over the course of the semester to give a speech to class. I find that it helps develop confidence and gives some preparation for any speech contests that they participate in. Also helps give some speech writing practise and preparation which is an aid for the TEM4 oral test . Here is the instructions (printed) that I give to my students at the beginning of term:
3 Minute Speeches
Every student will give a 3 minute speech, on their own, to the whole class, over this semester. I will pick 4 students each week, I will tell them that they will have their speech next class. The 4 students picked in the last class, Will each give their speech to the class in the order of their class number
Each student prepares their own speech on their own. This is not a group exercise. Try the speech before the class you are meant to give it. Don’t go over 3 minutes. The topic is your choice. Choose a topic that you feel happy with.
