The Fans

Fans have been existed since the beginning of time. And fans can be classified to many kinds, but there are two common kinds: the hand fan and the folding fan.

The origin of the hand fan can be traced back in Egypt, it’s said that it was an Indian who first created it, and not before a long time it spread through the rest of Europe. But the folding fan is recognized as being invented in Asia, for the reason that there are two Asian countries (China and Japan) holding legends of its creation.

Ignoring how the fan originated, early fans were regarded as status symbols.Because most of them were producted for the royalty and the nobility, and only the upper class had the ability to afford the luxury iterms.

In fact, the original purpose of hand fans was to create a breeze in a hot weather. But with time passing by, fans had many other uses. They were used for protecting against rain, greeting, and hiding a bad tooth. Other popular uses of fans were as dance performances , decorations and even advertisements.

When we talked about a fan we usually related it to a woman. But fans were not just for women, they also played a much more important role for men .In the ancient time of China, a man who carried a fan was usually regarded as a gifted scholar. For example, during the Three Kingdoms period, Zhuge Liang , the famous strategist, holding a feathered plume fan to send signals on the battlefield. And during the Ming Dynasty , the famous artist Tangbo Hu often painted landscape paintings on the surfaces of his folding fans.

The fan has its own language , it mainly used to send some love messages. So we can suggest a woman’s mood and her feelings from the posture of her holding the fan .Here are a few signals:Letting the fan rest on the right cheek means: “Yes.”;Letting the fan rest on the left cheek means: “No.”; Swiftly stirring the fan across the cheek means: “I love you”;Swiftly stirring the fan through the hand means “I hate you”;Dropping the fan on the ground means: “I belong to you”.
