The introduction should include more than one repetition of the speaker’s name (so that everyone can catch it), hit the highlights of the speaker’s achievements, and mention the title of the speech. Keep the tone warm, and to the degree possible, personal.

A good rule of thumb is to keep an introduction under three minutes. After all, the audience wants to hear the speaker, not the introducer.
