Rimuhosting VPS

Alastair Clark's RimuHosting Referral Link

I wanted to find a VPS for the following reasons: I wanted somewhere that I could host multiple websites (at least one for Miao and one for me) and without any limits on mysql, php and other support. Experience with remote hosting a linux server is really very valuable experience, not just for myself but for possible work in the future. Having a server I could control entirely meant that I could host an American IPed VPN (very useful in China, and useful when I return to England). I can do remote development using a dummy terminal such as my EEEPC without the hassle of dynamic ip allocations.

To this end I have signed up for a $30/Month Service at Rimu Hosting. So far I’ve been very happy with the service and would be quite happy to refer them. If you’re interested in signing up, my referral code is 9b3a196c1e05fb19e7e5139387efc8d9 :-) . The only thing I’m weary of is bandwidth consumption. They don’t have any way to cap bandwidth usage, you must configure that yourself lest you get overcharged

The distro I chose was Debian, the kernel of which appears to be designed for Xen virtualised VPS systems. I’ve been configuring things like Apache and virtual hosts, so that I can have more than one website on the same server. Configuring the security settings, so that some my server doesn’t get hijacked and my ips blacklisted on spam systems, thus preventing my site from emailing people and Trying to setup a VPN system that works, so far unsuccessful. This is what I’ve been playing with for the last 2 weeks.
