Student Speech Entitled "Appreciate Yourself"
Posted by Alastair in Uncategorized on September 15, 2009
Continuing the series of student speeches that I’m publishing on my blog, here’s another:
Ladies and gentlemen. Good afternoon.
Are you suffuring from the lack of confidence in you own look? Are you complaining to your friends that you are not born with an extrodinary ability? Are you dissatisfied with your present situation? If your answer is “yes”, I will be very glad to share with you one of my own experiences.
There was a time when I suffered from a lack of confidence in my own appearence. From the very first,I was dissatisfied with my shape of head. Because one day I happened to touch my head and I felt it was asymmetric. At that time, I felt quite confused because I thought only things which were symmetric were beautiful. I began to touch my head again and again to make sure whether it was asymmetric or not. What was worse, I have passed my bad mood to my friends by asking them whether they could be aware of my so-called imperfection. Then, I gradually lost my confidence in other parts of my body such as my hair style, face form, figure and so on. So to speak, I began to hate myself. I would feel ashamed when I was in a crowd, for example, when I gave a speech in front of our whole class just like this. In the way, I’ve been in a bad mood for a long time. One day, when I watched my favourite artiste’s concert, I was awakened by a word said by him—”To be a better person, the appreciation for yourself is more important than loving others.” I suddenly realised that “how long haven’t I smiled to myself and how long I have lost myself”. However, I am so lucky that I have got out of that period of suffering. Now, when I look in the mirror I’ll see a new, shining face again.
Yes, each of us is only one among millions of others, but each of us is an individual and unique. We may be short, shy or even ugly, but it is not the promble. The real tragedy is having our identity lost in a world in which everyone is a clone of a model cool boy or a perfect charming girl.
Everyone should learn to appreciate and take care of your own body, learn to appreciate your own skills and talents, Especially for us college students. Because we are at the stage of moving from adolescence to young adulthood. During this time, we are going through an identity crisis and are endeavoring to find out who we are and what our strengths and weaknesses are. So building up self-confidence is particularly important and the appreciation for ourselves is the premise. Because only if you appreciate yourself, you’ll allow yourself the apportunities to grow, develop and find your true sense of purpose in the life. So my dear friends, just be yourself. Please appreciate yoursel
Thank you!
