Week 8: Elective Written Assessment

- Write at least 300 words.
- Speech should include
- Title
- Introduction
- Body
- Conclusion
- Choose a topic that you are comfortable with from the following 5 choices:
- Explain how cultural differences can lead to misunderstandings. For example between the East and the West.
- Describe your feelings about Barak Obama becoming and acting as President of the United States of America.
- Explain why you think the BBC does or does not deserve its reputation as a reliable news source and producer of excellent TV and radio.
- Why do you agree or disagree that young people in the West become more independent and responsible from seeing nudity, violence and bad language in films and on TV?
- Describe how the Asian attitudes towards learning musical instruments and other professional skills might be affecting western jobs and employment.
- Do not simply copy from a book or in the internet. It must be your own words.
- You have 4 weeks to write the speech. Start early.
- Interesting and well thought out content will be given marks.
- On or before the lesson on Tuesday 17th November
- Hand in a completed composition

- Be careful for inaccuracy, spelling and grammar mistakes
Written Assessment Marking
- Copying
- Mark phrases copied from the internet or books as a quotation.
- Do not copy from other people. If you do this, both students will get no marks.
- If there are too many quotations or too much copied work, the mark will be zero.
- Incorrect number of words
- Title does not count towards number of words.
- Loose 1 mark per 10 words less than 270 words.
- 269 words looses 1 mark
- 260 words looses 1 mark
- 259 words looses 2 marks
