NHS Libraries Work Experience

This job involved photocopying and scanning a back catalog of NHS records going back to the 1940s. My responsibilities also included some poster design work, technical computer support and troubleshooting of various problems around the office according to need.

It was a good experience for me as a young person to learn to work in an office environment, and to see the interactions between departments in a large organisation such as the NHS. Being young made this especially useful as I was a neutral observer and could hear from all sides of any particular dispute.

Although I didn’t take away much specific knowledge it did allow me to adapt to a steady work environment in terms of time management, some responsibility, getting regular pay, paying taxes and paying national insurance.
