I would like to say that much of my blogging has been regular, but this is just not the case. I’m raising an issue of what many social media types say is important for returning readers -> to have a regular time to write and post. Be that weekly, daily or whatever, so that people can know when to come back to your blog to get an update.
Now I’m not talking about the type of post I’ve done in the past where I’ve been out of range of internet access, which in China was basically any time we went on holiday/visits to relatives. To maintain my own sense of time frame and memory I had often dated entries that I typed off-line on my small EEEpc (now dead), and then posted the entries at the time (or close to the time) they were written/were talking about. Indeed this is my own blog after all and is acting as a memory and diary device and for me this is a sensible idea, rather than posting one huge entry that no-one will read (and I include myself in that).
I’m talking about my feelings about giving new readers the impression I’ve written most days, but have actually post dated multiple entries written at a time when I’ve actually felt like I could and been eager to write. When I consider this, my feelings are that I’m creating text (and whatever value you put on my text is up to you but it’s important for me) and having it available immediately is better than scheduling it for a future date. Having multiple entries on one day seems rather keen and a lot to take in for regular readers, so maybe back dating is better. It also gives the impression that I have been blogging most days on a regular basis (not true and I wish I could be doing it more often).
So I guess there’s a few options here for me: 1) Carry on as I have, blog when the mood takes me and post date to give favourable impression to newbies. 2) Blog multiple entries at once and post them as I come. 3) Blog multiple entries at once and schedule them 4) Force myself to cast around for topics to talk about on a regular basis. 5) Force myself to sit down to write and if no topics come leave it, and when they do come write multiple entries to schedule.
I’m currently liking choice 5.
Thanks to all 2 of you for reading.
