Bitdefender Gingerbread Man

The other day, I was installing Windows Vista Home Premium on a machine. I went through what must have been 10-15 runs of the Windows Update to get it up past SP2.

A BitDefender salesman had been in to Biztech Asssist (where I did my work trial -> see logo on Gingerbread Man’s Belly) and I was asked to install Total Security 2010 on it. I did, restarted the machine and Windows gave a “Disk Corrupted” error on boot, and that one of the driver dlls was “missing”.

After 30 min fiddling with system restore and manually replacing the corrupted files from the original (pre SP1) CD, it works again – but horrendously unreliably. So I had to start again. Whether or not it was BitDefender, or just co-incidental, it was very annoying.

Eating the BitDefender Gingerbread man was however consoling. I posted a series of semi-eaten pictures to my Chinese Facebook page much to the amusement of my students, providing further fun.
