Elizabeth, having gathered that my uncle’s family had gone to see the History Boys in Edinburgh, immediately decided that she also wanted to see it. I used my iPhone to find out that it was also playing at the Theater Clwyd in Welsh Wales, and my Mum booked 3 tickets.
It turned out that Mum was busy the night of the play, so Dad took us (thankfully he looked at a map before we went otherwise we’d have got lost – it’s been ages since we’ve driven there ourselves).
It was most enjoyable. I really appreciated the atmosphere, that is to say the attention people were giving the actors and the stillness that that entails. People weren’t coughing, eating sweets loudly, etc and there was not a phone to be heard or seen (light pollution in the theater is obvious to see). The actors were spot on, and the humour was on the whole intelligent (albeit a bit crass at times).
As an activity, this has to be one of the most upper middle class things that there are going. People were well dressed, but not full on suit and tie and fancy dresses, and the respect/experience shared between the audience and the production staff was excellent.
The show was well produced and throughly worth going to see.
