Example Covering Letter

This, or a variant of, is my covering letter that I send as plain text in my CV sending emails. If anyone cares to have a butchers and give me feed back I’d be much appreciated. Thanks In Advance! :-)

Dear Ms Inch Arge,

I was interested to see your job advert in the Local Newspaper for an ICT Technician and would like to apply for this. Fundamentally I feel that my personal aims and desires, and experience is a good fit for this role and add value to your team.

From an early age I’ve enjoyed putting together computers and solving the family computer issues. This has extended to supporting family friends in tasks such as setting up new PCs, reinstalling windows, solving driver issues and advising on purchases. This lead me into earning my Information Systems Engineering Masters Degree from Imperial College London, scoring highly in areas concerning practical assessment, and performing well within teams.

While studying, I worked for a small graphics company of about 50 staff as a programmer, but later as technical support, going full time when I completed my degree. The role centred on solving issues for staff, speaking to clients whenever there were inter-company technical issues, maintaining backups, and arranging warranty replacements when hardware faults occurred.

While working in China, I maintained my skills through some personal projects, always with the intention of returning home to a technical role. Teaching for two years there extended my communication skills and provided good practise for training others.

Thank you for your time and consideration. I hope to have the opportunity to discuss my application in the near future.

Sincerely,

Alastair Clark

Hi! Found your page and decided to take a crack at your cover letter. This is what I came up with. It is written in an American style:

    Dear Ms Inch Arge,
I am writing in response to your job advertisement in the Local Newspaper for an ICT Technician. Please consider this my application for the position. I make an excellent candidate with my education training others, solid work history, and experience working as a team player.
From an early age I’ve enjoyed putting together computers and fixing computers for my family. Among my friends I became known as the person to go to for computer advice. My natural interest and ability lead me into earning an Information Systems Engineering Masters Degree from Imperial College London. I scored highly in areas concerning practical assessment and performing well within teams.
While studying, I worked for a small graphic design company of about 50 staff as a programmer and later as technical support. After completing my degree I was hired full time. The job centered on solving issues for staff, providing technical support for clients, maintaining backups, and arranging warranty replacements for computer hardware.
While working in China, I have maintained my skills through personal projects always with the intention of returning to employment in the technical field. Teaching in China has helped refine my communication skills and provided me with practice training others.
Thank you for your time and your consideration. I hope to have the opportunity to discuss my application in the near future.
    Sincerely,
    Alastair Clark
